Finkelstein Memorial Library Receives County Executive Arts Award 2008

The Finkelstein Memorial Library received the Arts Council of Rockland's "2008 Supporter of the Arts Award" for its varied cultural arts programming including the "Sala's Gift" Art Exhibit and the David Friedman Online Art Exhibit . The library has also been a long supporter of film with its International Film Festival now celebrating 29 years and its Independent Film Festival now celebrating 21 years. In addition, the library offers many arts-related activities for adults and children; monthly art exhibits; book discussions and talks including a Pulitzer Prize winning author this year; diverse music programs from high opera to Yiddish theater; matinees and evening films.

The Arts Council of Rockland promotes and encourages the arts in our diverse community and strives to create a climate in which creative expression flourishes and is experienced by all. Speaking at the awards dinner this year, Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef said, "It's a great celebration of the arts, the diversity of the arts and the people who support the arts in Rockland. It's recognizing those who have been nominated and those who won the award. All of us are benefited and enriched by the arts."
