Rena Finkelstein, President, Friends of the Library

Our thanks to our Library Friends!

You may not realize the Finkelstein Memorial Library has a Friends group—but you’ve probably seen the many things that our Friends group has accomplished!

Did you know that library patrons can take advantage of free museum passes admitting them to a host of wonderful museums in New York City and throughout the Hudson Valley thanks to the sponsorship of the Friends?   Did you know the Friends sponsors free cultural arts programs held at the library?

Our friends group raises funds for many of the activities and amenities we’re able to offer our patrons, and the Library wouldn’t be the same without them so please take the opportunity to show your appreciation for everything they do to support the Library—and through it, our community!

Our next Friends Meeting will be Tuesday, May 6 at 2 PM in the Library's Meeting Room.

Friends Annual Meeting on May 18 at 2 PM Features “Tea and Empathy”

“A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK AT TV PRODUCTION”

Please join us on Sunday May 18 at 2 pm. for an exciting Annual meeting and Membership Tea.  Our special program will feature Dean Taucher who will enlighten and entertain us with "A Behind the Scenes Look at TV Production."   Currently working as production designer for the popular NBC-TV show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit", Dean has a wealth of knowledge and experience as a TV production designer and art director.  He has worked on a vast variety of shows dealing with drama, crime, mystery and action, including “The Sopranos”, “New York Undercover”, “Miami Vice”, and many more.

Our annual meeting and Membership tea will also feature home made herbal teas and delicious baked goodies provided by Trader Joe’s.  This is a not to be missed event – the price of admission is merely to become a new member or renew your membership to the Friends of the Library for a nominal tax-deductible fee of $15. This event will take place in the Fielding Room on the third floor of the library.

Who are the Friends and what do they do?

  • The Friends of the Finkelstein Memorial Library are people just like you who enjoy the library and support its programs and services in a variety of ways, much like parents support schools through PTA's.
  • The Friends raise money exclusively for library programs, materials, special equipment and services, and to promote the library in the community.
  • The organization is led by a volunteer Board of Directors and maintains a close relationship with the library.
  • The Friends generate financial support through fundraising events and membership dues.
  • Our annual book fair and sale is one of our major fundraisers. Volunteers sort materials and staff the sale.
