Youth Services Department
The Children’s Services Department was recently expanded to include young adults. It now serves patrons from birth to age 18. One of the major benefits of this merger is that parents have one-stop shopping for material for all of their children.
It's an active learning center with innovative programs. The Department is divided into two primary collections: Children's and Young Adult.
Come to the Youth Services department to:
- Interact with our staff of highly skilled Librarians to collect materials for school assignments, or receive recommendations for future reading.
- Check out the newest releases available in many different genres: fiction, mystery, adventure, sci-fi, and our growing collection of comics and graphic novels.
- Participate in a variety of programs for all ages. See our Calendar of programs. Youth Services programs are in blue text.
- Interact with peers in an environment designed specifically for children and teens.
A New Technology Lab, with both PCs and Macs, is ready for children ages 5 – 13. Additionally, all audiovisual items and all paperbacks are shelved in the adjacent area and the area under the windows. The room itself is now enclosed with a separate door and glass wall. This new arrangement provides a safer environment for the children because they will not be able to leave the room without help from an adult. The doors open when the button is pressed, and the button is out of reach of little ones. For the first time in years all children’s library materials will be located within the children’s room.
The young adult (YA) room will soon be located on the first floor by the meeting room and will house the YA book collection and teen computers. The books are being moved to the first floor to create a more seamless transition from childhood to adolescence. We have temporarily moved the books-on-CD to the second floor preparation for our new YA room.
