In 1929 most stock investors believed the market would rise forever. Economist Irving Fisher proclaimed, “Stock prices have reached what looks like a permanently high plateau.” The October 1929 crash brought the Roaring Twenties to a shuddering halt. Unemployment would rise to 25% and the Great Depression that followed would last 12 years. But not all investors would lose. Jesse Livermore nicknamed The Boy Plunger bet against the market and would earn 100 million dollars from the crash of 1929.
